Thanks to Caterpillar, Rhonda Hafner, and staff of the Electric Power Division's Business Support Team for cleaning up several blocks of Adams and Jefferson Streets north of I74. They collected 34 bags and nearly 200 pounds of litter! The difference is dramatic. Before and After.

The Vision

From Good to Great! We will be awarded the cleanest city in the United States, and other cities will come to Peoria to see how we did it.

The Mission

"Pick Up Peoria!" We are an inclusive group, made up of citizens, neighborhoods, and businesses throughout Peoria that coordinates the prevention as well as the cleanup of human-generated litter within the city. We work with the city, the state, the schools, the neighborhoods, the community, businesses, churches, and the parks to identify and eliminate the sources of human generated-litter in an efficient and effective manner. We are positive change agents that coordinate and leverage the efforts of Peoria citizens, the city and civic organizations so we can all live in, work in, and play in a clean, litter-free city.

Critical Success Factors

We must:

*  Change hearts and minds about litter and instill a sense of

    ownership in Peoria (Proactive)

*  Keep streets, alleys, ditches, waterways, and yards litter

    free (Reactive)

*  Have a clear message (brand) and long-term marketing

    plan (Proactive)

*  Work with the city, police, and judicial system to insure

that littering laws and ordinances are consistently and

    effectively enforced. (Reactive)

*  Educate citizens, businesses, and communities about all

    aspects of litter (Proactive)
