Ordinances
Offense:
Throw, deposit, or
dump litter - not less than $200 and not more than $5,000.
Reward:
$100 or 10%, whichever is greater, of such fine may be paid to any
individual providing information leading to the charting and conviction
of the offender and upon collection of the fine.
Offense: Throwing litter from
cars - not less than $100 for the 1st offense, $125 for the 2nd
offense, and $150 for the 3rd and subsequent offences within one year
of the first offense.
Offense: Depositing litter in public places - not less than $100 for the 1st offense, $125 for the 2nd offense, and $150 within one year of the first offense.

Enforcement
Volunteer Litter Officer
Job Description
The
objective of the Litter Volunteer position is to concentrate additional
resources to educate and train businesses about the litter ordinance,
document violations, with the goal of a long-term resolution and change
of behavior. The intent would be to provide business owners with
information that would lead to establishing routine policing of the
business grounds and proper maintenance of litter receptacles and
dumpsters. If the behavior cannot be changed through education, the
documentation collected by the Litter Volunteer will be reported to the
Code Enforcement Supervisor, who will provide the information to the
assigned area inspector for appropriate action provided by the City of
Peoria Code of Ordinances.
The
Litter Volunteer will be provided the necessary training to accomplish
the tasks as outlined, as well as a uniform that clearly identifies the
individual as a Litter Volunteer. Mileage and other expenses to be
reimbursed at the current rate are not the responsibility of the City
of Peoria. Each candidate will undergo a background check and be
interviewed before the position is filled.
Expectations of Litter Volunteer (after
screening and training)
- Basic
knowledge
of current litter laws and ordinances.

Educate businesses on current litter abatement laws and ordinances in a
manner that is easily understood by the general public.

Identify and document (including use of a digital camera) potential
litter abatement ordinance and law violations and advise owner/manager
of suggested resolutions. A successful resolution is one where no
further action is required after action has been taken by the
owner/manager.
Six (6) month follow-up visit to insure that improved compliance is being maintained.
