Caterpillar Cleanup
Photo Clip

On March 29th Bill Springer (VP at Caterpillar) and his staff cleaned a section of town between Gwynn to Richard Prior Pl / Persimmon to Washington to Kumpf Blvd. Together the 11 member team picked up 28 bags, several large items totaling more than 135 pounds. Although there was a lot of trash that was collected, everyone was pleasantly surprised by how little litter, there was and how nice the area looked. They also commented on the amount of cigarette butts that were out there and what a problem it truly is. The Mayor's Litter Committee worked with the group to map out the area, identify work zones, provide the necessary equipment for a safe and efficient clean up. WMBD showed up to capture the event.

It is hoped that Bill and his staff's servant leadership serves as an example to the several hundred employees within the building and several thousand employees who work in Peoria. If every employee, bent down and picked up "One A Day" (piece of litter), rather than stepping over it, 10 to 20 bags of litter would be taken off the street. They can also reduce the cost of housekeeping, by doing the same in their building.

The Mayor's Litter Committee thanks Bill and his staff for their time and effort and hope this initiative becomes part of their daily activities.
